Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that can correct facial wrinkles and folds. As with any other treatment, there are certain important instructions that the potential patient should keep in mind before getting Juvederm.
Who are not good candidates for Juvederm?
This injectable filler should not be used on individuals with severe allergies, especially those with a history of anaphylaxis or multiple severe allergies. Moreover, patients who have a history of Gram-positive bacterial allergies are not advised to have Juvederm treatments. Some people who are allergic to lidocaine should not use Juvederm Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC.
What precautions should I follow?
Since Juvederm is injected into the face, it should be administered by a qualified health care practitioner only. Moreover, the patient should take note of the following:
- Inform your physician if you are taking any substances or medications that could affect your blood clotting process. These medications include ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen.
- The treatment site could be inflamed if any other dermal procedure, such as chemical peeling, is done following the Juvederm procedure.
- Patients who are immunosuppressed due to certain medications should undergo Juvederm treatment with caution as this may increase their risk for infection.
- Safety for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as those who have pigmentation problems, has not yet been established.
