About Revanesse
Revanesse Versa (often simply called Versa) is a hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler manufactured by Prollenium Medical Technologies in Canada. It gained FDA approval in the U.S. in 2017 and has rapidly become a favorite for Dr. Michele Ware at the Los Feliz Med Spa for being a high-quality, “low-swelling” alternative to big brands like Juvéderm and Restylane.
How it Works
1. What is it?
Versa is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, meaning it is made of the same naturally occurring sugar found in the body that hydrates the skin. Like other HA fillers, it is temporary and reversible (it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase).
2. The Unique Selling Proposition: “Spherical Particles”
The primary differentiator for Versa is its manufacturing technology (Wet Milling).
Spherical Shape: Most fillers have jagged, irregularly shaped particles (think of crushed ice). Versa uses a proprietary technology to create perfectly spherical, uniform particles (think of tiny microscopic marbles).
Why this matters: The smooth shape allows the filler to integrate very easily into the tissue and, most importantly, causes less irritation to the body upon injection.
3. The “Low Swelling” Benefit
This is Versa’s biggest claim to fame. Because the particles are smooth and uniform, the body doesn’t react as aggressively to them.
Less Edema: Clinical studies showed Versa causes roughly 50% less swelling than competitors immediately after injection.
Ideal for Lips & Eyes: Because it doesn’t puff up or hold excessive water (low hygroscopy), it is excellent for lips (preventing the “ducky” look right after treatment) and tear troughs (under eyes), where swelling is a major risk.
4. Versa vs. Versa Lips+
Prollenium offers two main variations in the U.S.:
Revanesse Versa: The original “multi-purpose” filler. It is FDA-approved for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (like nasolabial folds). It is a medium-density filler, balanced enough for almost anywhere in the face.
Revanesse Lips+: FDA-approved specifically for lip augmentation.
The 1.2mL Bonus: While most industry syringes (Juvederm, Restylane) contain 1.0mL of product, the Versa Lips+ syringe contains 1.2mL. This gives the patient 20% more product, which is a great selling point for achieving fuller volume.
5. Longevity
Results typically last 9 to 12 months. The spherical particle shape gives it a high molecular weight, which helps it resist breaking down too quickly in the body.
